15 Best Thanksgiving Resorts & Vacation Ideas for Families (2026)

Someone always works really hard on Thanksgiving. If you don’t want to be that person this year, try something new: Head to a luxury resort where everything from the decorations to the stuffing to the clean-up will be done by someone else so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy.

Highlights

  • Warm weather escapes: Choose sun and sand over cooking and dishes.
  • Cozy lodges and ranches: Skip the pumpkin pie and roast marshmallows by the fire pit at the end of the day.
  • Coastal elegance and historic stays: From Old World charm in Wisconsin to southern gentility in Georgia.
  • Early snow and big city wonder: Bundle up for time slopeside in Colorado or watching the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Thanksgiving is a time for family — the loving grandparents, the weird uncles, the cousins, the kids and the brother-in-law you wish you didn’t have to invite. And then there’s dinner. The turkey, the stuffing, the cranberry sauce, oh my! It can feel like a lot.

But there’s a better way: let someone else do all the work at a Thanksgiving hotel. All of the best resorts for Thanksgiving have one thing in common: They take the work out of Thanksgiving.

The resorts on this list range from warm weather wonders to California charmers to lovely ski resorts. They can work for the whole family — including the weird uncles and all the cousins if you feel the need to invite them — or they can be a welcome respite for just you two.

How to Plan Perfect Thanksgiving Getaways

Knowing all the different members of my family, here are the most important things I’m looking for in a resort to host my family:

  • Activities that appeal to the whole family. With ages ranging from my baby boomer parents to my toddler niece, as a family we have almost every decade covered.
  • Different options for sleeping rooms. Each individual family has its own needs for space and amenities. My parents need less space than my family of four.
  • Unique holiday experiences. It is a long weekend getaway but it is also a Thanksgiving family getaway so we want plenty of fall foliage and activities for families with some traditional Thanksgiving aspects, like a full-service Thanksgiving Dinner. It wouldn’t hurt to have a day after Christmas tree lighting and an ice skating party, too.
  • Easily accessible by airplane. Because my family lives everywhere from Florida to California, I didn’t limit the location. But I did rule out locations that would require difficult travel, such as commuter planes or long car rides from an airport. Since it’s only a four-day weekend, we also don’t want to travel too far—no long flights to Hawaii, for instance.
